Mount Kailash is in western Tibet. It
is one of the most famous mountains in the world. Many people travel there
every year, not to climb it, but to walk around it. The mountain is holy to
Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of the Bon religion. People believe it
is a special place with deep spiritual meaning.
The
walk around the mountain is called the Kora or Parikrama.
It is about 52 kilometers (32 miles) long and usually takes three days. The
path is difficult because of the high mountains, cold weather, and thin air.
Even so, thousands of people finish the journey every year. They believe the
walk can bring peace, hope, and a fresh start in life.
Unlike
many famous mountains, Mount Kailash has never been climbed. Local people and
pilgrims respect the mountain too much to step on its peak. Because of this, it
remains one of the world's most protected and respected mountains.
For many visitors, Mount Kailash is more than a travel destination.
It is a place to think, enjoy nature, and learn about different cultures. Even
people with no religion often say the journey changes the way they see life.
